The Korea Exhibition Company (KoiCo), represented by Jo Wan-soo, has unveiled plans to establish a Korean pavilion at the B2B beauty exhibition, "Cosmobeauté Malaysia & Beautyexpo 2026," taking place in Kuala Lumpur from September 29 to October 1. This initiative aims to support approximately 40 promising K-Beauty companies in their participation.
Marking its 21st year, Cosmobeauté Malaysia stands as a prominent B2B beauty exhibition in Malaysia, featuring brands, manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, salon and spa operators, and beauty professionals who gather to showcase the latest products and technologies while seeking out business collaborations.
Informa Markets Malaysia, the event organizer, anticipates participation from around 400 companies and 1,000 beauty brands, expecting approximately 15,000 industry professionals from over 60 countries to attend. The exhibition will also host key country pavilions, including those from South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan, facilitating active consultations between global companies and local buyers.
This year's exhibition will offer a comprehensive array of products, encompassing skincare, color cosmetics, aesthetic and beauty devices, hair and scalp care, nail care, personal care, natural and organic cosmetics, perfumes, aroma therapy, raw materials, packaging, and OEM/ODM services. Additionally, a live streaming program—including invitations for VIP buyers, local press and SNS market representatives, and influencers—aims to amplify brand promotion for international participants among local consumers.
Moreover, a dedicated "Halal Beauty Zone" will particularly highlight halal-certified skincare, haircare, makeup, and personal care products. This special zone will provide product displays along with educational sessions addressing halal certification procedures and market trends. There will also be opportunities for business matching between relevant manufacturers, distributors, and buyers, offering practical insights for companies aiming to penetrate the halal and Muslim-friendly beauty market.
Malaysia is recognized as a strategically important locale for accessing consumers from ASEAN countries, given its diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. When purchasing cosmetics, consumers not only evaluate ingredients and efficacy but also consider safety, religious and cultural appropriateness, and price competitiveness. Therefore, it is essential to develop product strategies that are responsive to the segmented local demand. Recently, there has been a notable increase in interest surrounding K-Beauty's differentiated ingredients and functional skincare technologies, as well as its rapid product development capabilities and sensory brand experiences. Accordingly, the Korean pavilion is expected to serve as a business touchpoint for domestic beauty companies to gauge local consumer and industry feedback while exploring distribution partners in Malaysia and the broader ASEAN region.
Backed by these market trends, the Korean pavilion will operate through the government-funded participation support project by KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency). Participating companies will receive support for part of the exhibition fees, significantly reducing the financial burden associated with international participation. This support will allow them to focus more on local product promotion, market viability validation, and the discovery of new buyers and subsequent export consultations, thereby exploring possibilities for expanding distribution networks into Malaysia as well as neighboring ASEAN countries.
KoiCo, the organizing agency for the Korean pavilion and the exclusive Korean representative office for Cosmobeauté, states that it has collaborated with KOTRA to facilitate everything from recruiting domestic participants to exhibition preparation, buyer consultations, and on-site operations. Korean pavilion participants intend to showcase their products to local importers, distributors, and retail buyers, as well as salon and spa operators and beauty professionals. Notably, they plan to actively promote the technological prowess and product competitiveness of K-Beauty through live demonstrations and sampling, effectively communicating the functionalities and user experiences of their offerings.
A KoiCo representative highlighted the significance of KOTRA's government funding initiative in lessening the financial burden on domestic beauty firms, enabling them to witness firsthand the potential for international market entry. They expressed hope that the Korean pavilion would facilitate enhanced local recognition of participating companies' excellent products and technologies, ultimately leading to meaningful distribution collaborations and export achievements in Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
