COSMAX, a leading global cosmetics ODM (research, development, and production) company, has demonstrated its formidable research capabilities at the 36th World Congress of Cosmetic Science (IFSCC) held in Perth, Australia, from September 28 to October 1. The company presented an impressive total of 32 research results, comprising 10 oral presentations and 22 poster presentations, establishing a new record for the highest number of presentations at the IFSCC.

This year, COSMAX not only surpassed its previous achievement of winning the domestic industry’s first IFSCC award last year but also set a benchmark for global oral presentations. The increase from five presentations last year (including co-research) to ten this year underscores COSMAX's strengthening technical competitiveness in the international arena.

The IFSCC is a prestigious academic conference where leading researchers and professionals from the global cosmetics industry converge to share cutting-edge research and technologies. Since its first participation in 2014, COSMAX has accumulated a total of 105 research studies presented. The significance of oral presentations, selected through a rigorous review process, is underscored by awards such as the Fundamental Research Award, which focuses on academic mechanisms, and the Applied Research Award, which targets practical problem-solving and technological application.

This year’s presentations spanned crucial research and development areas in cosmetics, including skincare, makeup, sun care, hair care, and fragrances. Notably, COSMAX emphasized its technological leadership in the sun care market with three research studies focused solely on UV protection, showcasing advanced formulations and solutions.

Among their key findings were analyses of inorganic UV filters through rheology and holography, a D-phase emulsion solution to enhance the SPF and usability of natural emulsifiers, and a sustainable cellulose-based multifunctional film for UV blocking, color adjustment, and wrinkle improvement.

In addition to its work in UV protection, COSMAX presented foundational research integrating biotechnology, including a 'microbiome live-cell encapsulation platform' recognized in the top 10 applied research studies, and studies involving biobased fermented lipids for thermal stability in lamellar liquid crystal systems.

Innovations in hair care included an AI-based model for predicting alopecia and the results of global scalp lipid analysis. In makeup, COSMAX introduced a temperature-responsive study aimed at enhancing foundation durability in high-temperature conditions, while their fragrance research focused on storage-mediated release for scent longevity.

This year, two researchers from COSMAX China also participated as podium presenters, contributing to a broader representation of the company beyond its Korean headquarters. COSMAX's Indonesian R&I center showcased six posters covering research in skincare, makeup, and materials, highlighting the company's enhanced global research competitiveness.

A COSMAX representative noted, “Following our award-winning achievement last year and the record number of global oral presentations this year, it is clear that COSMAX's R&I competitiveness is at the highest level worldwide. We will continue to introduce innovative products that lead the global market based on our technological prowess.”
