Korean Otsuka Pharmaceutical has announced the publication of research on AMP2Na (Disodium Adenosine Monophosphate), a key active ingredient in its premium dermatological skincare brand, Inner Signal, in the SCI-grade journal, International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IJMS).

AMP is known as an energy metabolism-related substance found in various biological tissues, including seeds, tubers, bamboo nodes, and breast milk. Based on studies of AMP2Na, Otsuka Pharmaceutical developed 'AMP2NaOT' using proprietary high-concentration emulsification technology.

This research included a comprehensive approach covering cell testing (In vitro), human skin tissue testing (Ex vivo), and clinical studies (Clinical Study). It presented the possibility that AMP2Na might enhance skin energy metabolism and turnover, contributing to the improvement of skin aging.

Led by Professor Lee Joo-hee from the Department of Dermatology at Yonsei University, alongside researchers from Yonsei University Medical College and the Global Medicine Research Center (GMRC), the study was published under the title 'Translational Evaluation of a Disodium Adenosine Monophosphate (AMP2Na)-Based Topical Formulation for Physiology-Aligned Skin Rejuvenation.'

The findings confirmed that formulations containing AMP2Na not only facilitate skin turnover and improve melasma but also contribute to alleviating multiple signs of skin aging, including wrinkles, dryness, and loss of skin elasticity. Cell studies indicated that AMP2Na increases antioxidant enzyme activity and reduces markers related to cellular aging. Furthermore, human skin tissue tests revealed decreased melanin accumulation, alongside observed protection of collagen and elastin and an increase in the expression of skin barrier-related proteins.

In a clinical study involving 23 women aged 35 to 59 over a period of 12 weeks, improvements were reported in the appearance of crow's feet, nasolabial folds, glabellar lines, and neck wrinkles, as well as enhancements in skin tone, radiance, and transparency. Increased skin moisture, improved barrier function, reduced keratinization, and enhanced skin texture were also confirmed.

A representative from Korean Otsuka Pharmaceutical noted, "The publication in an SCI-grade journal signifies a meaningful achievement in scientifically validating the mechanisms related to skin turnover of AMP2Na through integrated research from cell testing to clinical trials. Moving forward, we will continue our research on skin energy metabolism and turnover to provide differentiated skincare solutions based on skin science." Inner Signal continues to focus on skin aging improvement research, building on over 30 years of accumulated studies on skin turnover and showcasing skincare solutions that utilize 'AMP2NaOT' in its key products.
