Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) is set to broaden the reach of K-Beauty with a pop-up store in Paris's Marais district, scheduled from October 10 to November 30. This initiative follows a successful event in Los Angeles where 220,000 visitors were recorded, establishing the demand for Korean beauty products.
The Paris pop-up will feature 33 small and medium-sized K-Beauty and lifestyle companies aiming to penetrate the French and European markets. The Marais district is known as a cultural hub, frequented by discerning Parisians and artists alike, making it an ideal location for attracting both local buyers and consumers.
According to market research firms Euromonitor and Statista, the French beauty and personal care market is projected to reach approximately €15 billion to €16 billion by 2025, with French consumers among the highest spenders globally on beauty products. Notably, Korean cosmetics are gaining popularity in France, a leading beauty market.
Major beauty retailers such as Sephora and Nocibé, along with pharmacies and convenience stores, are increasingly stocking Korean beauty products, a trend that indicates strong local demand.
The Eeseol pop-up in Paris aims to leverage the synergy between K-Pop and K-Beauty to attract local consumers. Special events, such as an appearance by actress Kwon Yoori as a guest store manager during the opening weekend and merchandise sales related to the HYBE ‘Cine Fest’ in the third week, are planned for this initiative.
KOTRA plans to enhance the effectiveness of this project by connecting the pop-up store operation with export consultation meetings, inviting major French retailers and buyers. This will facilitate one-on-one consultations between participating companies and prominent French buyers from beauty, pharmaceutical, and lifestyle segments, as well as online platforms.
KOTRA expressed that this collaboration signifies the expansion of the momentum built during the successful Los Angeles event to the European market. Particularly, establishing consumer awareness and distribution capabilities in France is seen as crucial for laying the groundwork for a future European market expansion. Lotte Home Shopping has been consistently exploring opportunities in key European markets through the ‘Korea Brand Expo,’ and it is expected that its established networks and expertise will yield positive synergies with this pop-up initiative.
Kim Myung-hee, Vice President of KOTRA, remarked that although there are high entry barriers for individual SMEs in essential global markets, having a leading domestic distributor as a platform can enable excellent small and medium-sized enterprises to collectively participate in the global stage. It is anticipated that the marketing initiatives in Los Angeles and Paris will foster a structure of joint entry and growth between distribution platforms and K-consumer goods.
