K-beauty skincare brand Mary&May has achieved the number one position in the new brand launch rankings of Qoo10's Mega Debut program in Japan. The brand also ranked 23rd in Qoo10's overall real-time rankings, demonstrating significant consumer interest from the outset.
Mary&May introduced its brand and key products during a live broadcast on Qoo10, effectively engaging with consumers and establishing initial contact within the Japanese market.
Qoo10, launched in Japan in 2010, is a leading e-commerce platform with approximately 30 million members. According to Qoo10, 71% of its members are aged between 10 and 30, with women making up 80% of this demographic. The beauty category accounts for nearly 70% of overall sales. A survey by Fujikeizai revealed that Qoo10 holds a 30% market share within Japan's beauty e-commerce sector, positioning it as a critical access point for K-beauty brands.
The Mega Debut program is designed to assist domestic emerging brands in establishing a foothold in the Japanese market, featuring participation from a total of 272 brands to date. Qoo10 reports that brands interested in joining the program currently face a waiting period of 4 to 5 months. Additionally, live broadcasts have become a key sales channel, contributing about 5% of overall sales on the platform. Mary&May's ranking as the top new brand highlights its competitive product offering and growth potential in the Japanese market.
Moving forward, Mary&May intends to strategically utilize Qoo10 as a primary sales channel to enhance brand awareness in Japan and continuously expand consumer engagement.
According to a representative from Mary&May, "The core audience of Qoo10 in Japan consists of women in their 10s to 30s who are sensitive to trends and meticulous about ingredients and user experience. We will engage consumers through live broadcasts that effectively communicate our product benefits and rely on the strength of our ingredients and efficacy in our competition in the Japanese market using Qoo10 as a base."
Additionally, Mary&May recently entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GRACE Co., a global H&B distribution company. GRACE will support local product registration and develop a 3PL logistics network through its Japanese subsidiary, GRACE JAPAN, supplying K-beauty products to over 5,000 variety stores including Loft and Don Quijote. This collaboration aims to bolster Mary&May's expansion into the Japanese market and enhance both online and offline distribution channels.
Recently, the brand has also expanded its presence in Asia, entering retail outlets in Taiwan (POYA) and Singapore (Guardian).
