Cynosure Lutronic, a global player in the medical aesthetic industry based in the United States, has announced that its dual monopolar radiofrequency (RF) medical device, XERF, has surpassed 3,000 units sold globally. This milestone comes just four months after achieving 2,000 units in May.
Launched domestically in May 2024, XERF is the first product following the integration of Cynosure and Lutronic. The device has rapidly expanded its market footprint, reaching 1,000 units sold by November 2025, then 2,000 units by May this year, and now surpassing 3,000 units in September. The period for this additional 1,000 sales has progressively shortened from 18 months to six months and now to four, indicating accelerating growth.
The achievement of 3,000 units sold is a result of expanding sales regions, including South Korea, North America, and the Asia-Pacific. XERF currently has regulatory approvals in 18 countries, including South Korea, the United States, Brazil, Thailand, and the UAE. Additionally, in July, it received CE MDR certification in compliance with European Union medical device regulations, paving the way for market entry into key European locations like Germany, Switzerland, and Spain.
XERF's competitive edge in the global energy-based device market lies in its differentiated RF technology. Unlike traditional RF medical devices that typically operate at a single frequency of 6.78 MHz, XERF employs a dual frequency monopolar RF technique with an added 2 MHz frequency. This allows for precise adjustment of energy delivery depth in three levels (Shallow, Middle, Deep) based on treatment area and goals, enabling personalized treatments tailored to individual skin concerns.
The device's distinct technological capabilities have garnered attention in the global academic community. At the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) conference held in May, ten research papers focusing on XERF were accepted for presentation.
To enhance XERF's personalized treatment capabilities, Cynosure Lutronic is expanding its handpiece tip lineup. Last month, it launched new compact tips, XERF i05 and i10, optimized for narrow and contoured areas. These tips maintain the RF energy output while reducing the tip size by up to 1/12 compared to previous options, contributing to a customized full-face treatment.
As XERF equipment sales grow rapidly, sales of XERF-specific tips are also increasing. This has led to a stable and synergetic revenue structure, where equipment sales coupled with consumables result in mutually reinforcing growth.
Cynosure Lutronic plans to accelerate its global market expansion further. The company is looking to enter emerging markets in Asia, including Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, as well as the Middle East. In established markets like Japan, it aims to diversify its portfolio tailored to local market needs. By strengthening its global distribution network, the company intends to position XERF as a leader in the global RF medical device market.
