L'Oréal Group, the world's largest beauty company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with COSMAX, a leading South Korean company specializing in cosmetics research, development, and production (ODM), to drive next-generation beauty innovation. This agreement, one of three business MoUs established during the recent summit commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, illustrates the strategic significance of the beauty sector in strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
The MoU was officially signed on September 8, following the Korea-France Economic Forum at the Hôtel de Marigny. The signing ceremony included L'Oréal CEO Nicolas Hieronimus and COSMAX Vice Chairman Choi Kyung, with attendance from Nicolas Forissier, the French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, and Kim Jung Kwan, South Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy.
For over 30 years, L'Oréal has collaborated closely with Korean partners in ODM, packaging, and raw materials sectors to lead beauty innovation. This partnership aims to combine L'Oréal's global beauty science expertise, consumer insights, and robust brand portfolio with COSMAX's science-driven product development and agile R&D capabilities to pave the way for the future of global beauty and lead next-generation innovations.
The collaboration will focus on three main areas: global product development inspired by K-beauty, joint research and development for products aimed at global expansion; innovation in raw materials by discovering and developing innovative cosmetic ingredients and effective components; and formulation innovation by developing new formulas and product formats inspired by Korean beauty market trends and consumer preferences.
Both parties express their anticipation that this MoU will serve as a crucial milestone in accelerating global next-generation beauty innovation by combining the strengths of both countries.
Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L'Oréal, remarked, "Beauty is a living bridge connecting the cultures of both countries and a strategic core industry. I am proud to deepen our partnership with COSMAX on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Korea-France diplomatic relations. We aim to work closely together, combine our strengths, and craft the future of beauty, offering a new dimension of beauty experiences to consumers worldwide."
