LG Household & Health Care has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Food Research Institute (KFRI) to collaborate on research and commercialization in the field of health functional products, including the development of new materials and analytical techniques. This partnership was formalized on the 17th, marking a significant step toward advancing well-aging solutions.
The MOU aims to go beyond merely extending lifespan, addressing the growing focus on aging healthily. The collaboration is set to identify materials related to health extension (Longevity) and create differentiated health functional products based on scientific research. During the signing ceremony, KFRI designated LG Household & Health Care as a 'Family Company' and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the beginning of their partnership.
The Family Company system of KFRI fosters sustainable technical cooperation, supporting companies throughout the entire process from technology development to commercialization.
Through this agreement, LG Household & Health Care and KFRI will work on various collaborative efforts, including: joint development of new analytical methods for functional ingredients, co-development of materials for extending health lifespan, and collaboration on business models for commercialization. The partnership will also provide technical support for product development required for entering new domestic and international markets, as well as education support and exchange of R&D infrastructure.
Leveraging the product development and global business capacity of LG Household & Health Care alongside the food analysis and research infrastructure of KFRI, the partnership aims to advance the development of high-value health functional products. The focus will not only be on discovering new functional materials but also validating their efficacy and developing analytical methods, with a view to transforming these innovations into tangible health solutions for consumers.
Both organizations will establish a practical working group to explore joint research topics and detail collaboration on new material validation and new formulation analysis. This initiative is expected to enhance the technological standards of the domestic health functional food industry and to introduce competitively advantageous products in the global market.
According to a representative from LG Household & Health Care, "This agreement is a starting point for developing differentiated health functional products that contribute to customers' healthy lives based on scientific research capabilities. We aim to closely collaborate with KFRI to connect research achievements with actionable products and customer experiences, leading the future health functional food market."
