LS Cosmetics, a specialist in cosmetics OEM and ODM, has announced a partnership with the bio-materials company JAJALE to co-develop a cosmetic ingredient based on rice germ oil, named 'Rice Germ Oleate'. They are actively pursuing the international cosmetic ingredient name (INCI) registration under 'ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) GERM OLEATE.'
This ingredient features a plant-derived emollient created by applying bio-catalytic esterification technology to the oil extracted from the germ of rice. It addresses issues of the traditional rice germ oil, which is often perceived as heavy and sticky, enhancing user experience while leveraging active ingredients like oryzanol.
Rice Germ Oleate is formulated to contain over 4,000 ppm of oryzanol, a compound known for its various physiological effects. Compared to conventional rice germ oil, the viscosity has been reduced by approximately 69%, resulting in a product that delivers a refreshing finish upon application.
Multiple efficacy tests have demonstrated the ingredient's antioxidant properties, moisturizing effects, and potential for wrinkle improvement. In a DPPH radical scavenging assessment, a 10% concentration of the ingredient displayed 95.8% radical scavenging activity, indicating a trend of increasing antioxidant activity with higher concentrations.
In a human application test involving 32 participants over 14 days, results showed a 34.45% reduction in the number of crow's feet wrinkles, alongside decreases of 32.04% in wrinkle length and 17.47% in width. Additionally, another study with 30 participants revealed an 88.08% increase in skin moisture content one hour after product application, and a reduction of 27.14% in trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and 28.60% in erythema index after two hours.
These findings suggest that bio-lipid materials derived from rice germ oil could play significant roles in antioxidants, moisturization, skin barrier management, and anti-aging applications.
LS Cosmetics notes that Rice Germ Oleate demonstrates a drying feeling comparable to that of volatile silicone D5 while proving to be faster and lighter in finish than traditional rice germ oil. Testing on hair fiber indicated a 21.84% increase in hair tensile strength compared to the D5 silicone treatment group, with observed improvements in hair cuticle arrangement.
Based on these characteristics, the applicability of Rice Germ Oleate extends to various cosmetic formulations including skincare, sun care, makeup, and hair care. LS Cosmetics aims to establish a distinct identity for the ingredient while expanding its global market presence and enhancing its development of differentiated cosmetic ingredients and formulation technologies through ongoing domestic and international collaborations, as stated by Chief Kyeong-Ji Hoon.
