P&K Skin Clinical Research Center, a leading Korean company in human application testing, participated in the K-Beauty Experience Center at 'Cosmetics Day' on the 7th, organized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
This year's event, themed 'K-Beauty in Bloom,' took place at The Plaza Hotel and Seoul Plaza in Jung-gu, where representatives from the government, National Assembly, industry, and academia gathered to celebrate Korea's position as the second-largest global cosmetics exporter and the first time surpassing $10 billion in cosmetics trade surplus. Approximately 300 attendees participated in this milestone event.
At the K-Beauty Experience Center, 16 cosmetic-related companies and institutions, including P&K, presented their innovations. Attendees engaged in skin measurement experiences and were particularly interested in P&K's Skin Aging Index (SAI), which combines skin measurement data related to wrinkles, skin texture, pores, pigmentation, gloss, elasticity, sebum, and moisture with age, gender, and survey input to comprehensively evaluate skin aging characteristics.
Visitors expressed significant interest in understanding the efficacy claims of cosmetics, such as 'improved moisturization' and 'wrinkle reduction,' as they experienced firsthand how these benefits are substantiated through actual human application tests.
P&K has conducted over 9.5 million skin clinical data and accumulated more than 400 testing protocols over 16 years, which not only facilitated the development of SAI but also supported the selection of appropriate measurement indices and testing designs aligned with product characteristics and efficacy concepts.
As the formulation and functionality of cosmetics diversify, the importance of designing what indicators to measure and prove grows. In response to new products and functionalities, analysis technologies are also being integrated into human application testing. For example, Raman spectroscopy is used to analyze how cosmetic components are distributed in skin depth, allowing for data-driven validation of penetration patterns.
P&K is expanding its evaluation capabilities by applying various analytical techniques to human application tests, enabling clients to substantiate differentiated product characteristics and efficacy with objective data.
A P&K representative stated, 'Producing a quality product and explaining what that product achieves are two different capabilities.' They emphasized that transforming brand claims into measurable items and making those results usable as objective evidence for overseas approvals and marketing is integral to P&K's role.
